Proposals Home Page > Session Proposals
The closing date for proposing sessions was Wednesday
14th November.
Session proposals have now closed. If you have made a special agreement with
the Programme Coordinator for a late submission, please email wac6programme@ucd.ie
and you will be advised how to complete your late submission form.
Proposals for sessions are particularly welcome and the experience of previous WAC Congresses is that some of the most important and successful thematic programmes have emerged through the Programme Committee recognizing the links and interactions between sessions and bringing them together.
- How many sessions can I organize? For timetabling purposes, individuals may perform the role of Lead Session Organizer for ONE session only, unless the Sessions are in the same Theme as these will have no danger of clashing. Individuals may also be a co-organizer (not Lead) on more than one session.
- What is the time duration of a session? The Programme Committee will allot sessions ONE (or
in exceptional circumstances, multiple) timeslots of 2 hours, on the basis
of their confirmed papers / presentations. See Outline Programme for overall
timetable. Due to the large number of submissions multiple timeslots may
not be possible in many cases.
- What format should my session take? Format is decided
by the session organizers (see submission form for choices). WAC traditionally
focuses on DISCUSSION, rather than long read papers. In view of the 2hr session
slots, please consider pre-circulation of papers (PDFs can be added to this
website), short position papers, or other discussion focused formats (eg.
roundtables), if you wish to involve a large number of speakers.
- What are the benefits of discussion-focused session formats? A well run discussion-focused format facilitates productive progress on particular issues via structured (preferably chaired) dialogue and debate, rather than devoting time to summarising previous work. Pre-circulation of papers (eg as PDFs on this website) also enables participants to arrive fully informed of their colleagues recent work. Further, pre-circulation has clear benefits for post-Congress publication.
- What audio-visual facilities will be available? The use of PowerPoint for any paper / presentation visuals is strongly recommended. Session organizers should help ensure their contributors are able to meet this recommendation. Session organizers must select the facilities they need on the Session proposal form.
- Should I contact theme organizers? If your session submission relates to an existing theme it will be forwarded to the theme organizers for review. Please feel free to discuss your potential contribution with the theme organizers informally before submitting your proposal.
- What happens if I can't see a relevant theme for my session? If
you are submitting an independent session proposal, following review and
acceptance by the Programme Committee it will be placed within an appropriate
theme as the Programme develops.
- Will WAC-6 advertise my session online? As sessions are accepted they will be posted as part of the programme on the website with the contact details of the organizers.
- Will there be any more new themes announced? Please note that the online Programme is provisional only, and new Themes may be identified by the Programme Committee at their discretion on the basis of independent session proposals.
- Do I need to list session participants on my session proposal form? You only need to provide the information requested on the online form (take a look at the form using the red link above). Individual paper proposals should then be submitted using the paper proposal form by February 22nd 2008. If you wish, you can list potential participants in the comments box of the session proposal form.
- Do session Discussants need to submit a proposal? Yes -Discussants should submit a paper proposal form by 22nd February, listing 'Discussion' in the title and Abstract boxes, as required.
