Acknowledging the passing of Mrs Madeline Hynes

It is with sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Mrs Madeline Hynes.

Mrs Hynes trained as a nurse at St Vincent’s in Stephen’s Green and her late husband, Dr Harry Hynes, graduated from UCD in 1958 and pursued a career in the US. He was the key link between UCD and Kansas University, kindly supporting UCD student clinical electives since 1998 in Oncology and Hematology.

After Dr Hynes' passing in 2000, it is with thanks to Mrs Hynes that this support for UCD students remains to this day. A considerable number of students have been impacted by their generosity and support over the years.

Dr Kilian Tuite, Dr Harry Hynes Scholarship recipient from 2014 fondly acknowledges Mrs Hynes' work and kindness shown to the group during their elective in Kansas. 'We must also give a huge thanks to Mrs. Madeleine Hynes. Her continued support is vital for the existence of the programme, and it was great to meet her and her family while we were out there.'

We pass on our sincere condolences to the Carbery and Hynes family and send our thoughts and best wishes at this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Professor Michael Keane and Dr Patrick Felle.
