Louise has been promoted to Full Professor and Marguerite to Professor. Both have contributed greatly to the success of the School over the years.

Prof Louise Rainford

Prof Rainford's background is in the area of medical imaging, training as a radiographer in Manchester, UK where she worked for a short period. Following a move to Ireland and a twelve-year clinical career in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital Dublin, she commenced work in University College Dublin, Ireland in 1992, Since 2009 she has been the Head of Radiography & Diagnostic Imaging within the UCD School of Medicine. She was appointed the Associate Dean for Radiography in 2016. Prof Rainford has supervised many graduate research students, including 20 PhD studies. She is a distinguished teacher with awards for teaching excellence and she is currently focussed upon embedding clinical simulation into Radiography curricula. Prof Rainford sits on several national committees, representing Radiography education and she has experience as the Chair of the Irish Radiographers Registration Board, CORU. Prof Rainford is the Chair of the EFRS Research Hub Committee and has contributed to numerous European committees and working groups over the past two decades. Prof Marguerite Clyne

Prof Clyne’s PhD project investigated the pathogenesis of Staphylococcus aureus isolates associated with cases of toxic shock syndrome. Her work on bacteria/host and mucin/pathogen interactions led to an invitation to be a PI on a successful SFI funded strategic research cluster award (Alimentary Glycoscience Research cluster, AGRC). Industry collaborators included Agilent Technologies, Alimentary Health, Biomining Inc, Bristol Myers Squibb and Teagasc.

Prof Clyne has also worked with Dr. Marion Rowland on a HRB funded project to investigate the epidemiology of H. pylori in Irish families using DNA isolated from faecal samples. part of an international collaborative project with Dr. Tadhg O.Croinin and researchers in UCDavis in USA funded by the animal health company Zoetis to phenotypically and genotypically characterise strains of C. jejuni from different environmental sources with a view to development of biomarkers of virulence for use in a diagnostic test for strains likely to cause disease in humans.
