The 2017 National PEP Conference
The Mater hospital and UCD will be supporting a one day conference/workshop on HIV post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and HIV pre exposure (PrEP) to be held this Wednesday 26th April 2017 at the Pillar Room in the Rotunda Hospital.
It is anticipated that over 140 health care providers from a variety of clinical settings (STD Clinics, Sexual Assualt Units, Sexual Health Centres, Emergency Rooms, Primary care) will attend, as well as a large continent from civil society and community groups working on HIV prevention.
Dr Mallon, Co Chair of the study, has been a key supporter of studies in Ireland to address the issue of PrEP, which involves taking HIV preventive medications in situations where high risk exposures to HIV are likely. At present these treatments are not available in Ireland but are in many other developed and developing countries around the world. It is hoped that this conference will advance the science and move forward the agenda of PrEP in Ireland.
The Conference will be of interest to healthcare professionals and service providers including:
- Infectious Diseases
- Emergency Medicine
- Occupational Health Professionals
- General Physicians
- Ambulance Services
- Obstetricians and Gynecologists
- Public Health Professionals
- Government and NGO representatives
- Garda and PrisonDoctors
- STI and SATU Staff
- Community at risk populations
