UCD Atomic, Molecular, and Plasma Physics (Spectroscopy) Group

What is Spectroscopy?

Spectroscopy is, at it's most basic, the study of the interaction of light and matter. In our laboratory we study the measurement of the emission and absorption of electromagnetic radiation from or by matter. We also study electrons, protons, and ions produced in different interactions between radiation and atoms and molecules.

History

The UCD Spectroscopy Group has a history in the area of atomic, molecular and ionic spectroscopy dating back to the late 19th century to the pioneering work of Thomas Preston on the Anomalous Zeeman effect. Learn more about our History.
