MS C 11: commendation for Florence Conry ofm
  • Seventeenth century, paper with seal

An official letter of recommendation written on behalf of Florence Conry by the papal nuncio in Brussels, Guido Bentiveglio, titular archbishop of Rhodes and nuncio to Flanders from 1607 to 1615. The letter, issued in Brussels on 24 January 1608, was addressed to the Archdukes Albert and Isabella. It makes particular reference to granting the friars permission to seek alms, a subject of contention between the Irish friars and local Belgian friars throughout the early decades of the foundation of the college in Louvain
