CEPOL Webinar “FREETOOL Project: A showcase of FREETOOL investigation tools for law enforcement”

The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL) hosted a FREETOOL showcase on Wednesday 26 January 2022 which featured presentations on the project and tools (by developers), as well as the INSPECTR project and (opens in a new window)European Anti-cybercrime Technology Development Association (EACTDA).

780 people registered for the Showcase and there were 609 law enforcement attendees on the day from 42 countries and organisations. The event was a huge success with a 97.86% satisfaction level and many very positive comments. European organisations represented among the delegates included the European Anti-Fraud Office, the European Public Prosecutor's Office, Europol, EC DG Competition, Frontex and others from Border, coast, maritime police forces, customs and tax authorities as well as police forces throughout Europe.

As the European Commission funded FREETOOL project nears the end of its third cycle the Showcase was a chance to demonstrate the enhanced suite of tools developed for law enforcement, by law enforcement, and freely distributed via The FREETOOL Hub. The event showcased the enhancements made to the suite of FREETOOLs with live demonstrations of each tool and the opportunity for LEAs to ask questions, provide feedback, and to receive information on how to access the tools.

After opening remarks and a welcome to the attendees from CEPOL, there was a Keynote address from Philipp Amann of Europol’s EC3. Then Michael O’Callaghan the FREETOOL Community Manager from CCI gave an overview of the project.

Following this, demonstrations of each tool were delivered by the developers and an introduction to the INSPECTr project featuring FREETOOL tools DeepThought and Roast Lamb was delivered.

The final presentation of the day was given by Juan Arraiza, President of EACTDA.

The day concluded with questions from the floor

The FREETOOL course page on the CEPOL system now has 817 Users and has become a mini hub. The showcase videos have been uploaded to it as a point of reference for anyone interested in the tools.
