Philosophizing Together:

A Three-day Event on Doing Philosophy with Children

22nd, 23rd and 24th of June 2022

Philosophizing Together is a three-day event that will bring together philosophers, teachers, and students, with the aim of reflecting, discussing, and practicing methods of doing philosophy with children at primary and secondary schools.

The first day (22nd of June) consists of a conference on The Present and the Future of Doing Philosophy with Children. The conference brings together academic philosophers, educationalists, and teachers with the aim of discussing and critically reflecting on 1) the importance of doing philosophy in schools, 2) the challenges that this initiative faces and 3) the future of doing philosophy with children.

The second day (23rd of June) is a day of practice. Schoolteachers and P4C/PwC practitioners are invited to participate in interactive workshops that will introduce them to practical ways of doing philosophy with children.

Note: Spaces for the workshops are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

The third day (24th of June) is focused on children and young students. All 5th and 6th primary school students and all secondary school students are invited to UCD campus to participate in philosophical workshops organized by the UCD School of Philosophy.

**All students must be accompanied by their parent, guardian, or teacher. **

Venue:  UCD Student Centre, Red Room 

Participation in the student workshops is free but spaces are limited. To register for the third day, you must email Dr Georgios Petropoulos at (opens in a new window)georgios.petropoulos@ucd.ie with the following information:

  • Full name of the student
  • Full name of the parent, guardian or teacher
  • Student’s age and level at school
  • Contact details of the student and the parent or teacher

The workshops aim at familiarizing students with some important philosophical skills in a playful and highly interactive manner. But most importantly these workshops aim at giving to students a space where they can discuss with one another and develop their own philosophical questions and ideas. Expect fun activities and discussions!
