Directions

Traveling by car:

Locked traffic barriers are in place to prevent through traffic on UCD campus. The barriers are in operation from: 07.00 to 10.30 and from 16.00 to 19.30 Monday to Friday. Clamping is in operation in UCD during term where a car is parked in a UCD permit area or illegally parked at any time.

To access the Geary Institute for Public Policy by car outside of the above hours, it is best to use the Owenstown Gate, on Owenstown Park, off Foster Avenue. Once you follow the road into UCD past Roebuck student accommodation on your left and Glenomena and Merville on your right, you will see a set of traffic lights. There is visitor parking on the left just before these traffic lights. This car park is a couple of minutes’ walk away from the Institute. Charges for visitor parking is €1 an hour or €3 for the day.

Exit through the car park entrance on foot and take a left at the set of traffic lights, follow the path, keeping the Sutherland School of Law on your right, and ahead you will see two large student accommodation blocks (Ashfield Residences). Walk towards these and turn left along the road in front of the staff and student car parks, keeping the student accommodation to your right. Turn right at the back of the accommodation and you will find the Geary Institute a semi-circular three-story building in front of you.

Traveling by bus/on foot/bicycle:

  • If travelling on the 39A bus to the UCD campus, exit the bus terminus via the pathway and there will be a lake on your right. Walk straight between the two buildings in front of you (Sutherland School of Law and the Quinn School of Business) and cross the road. There is a car park straight ahead and student residence buildings (Ashfield Residences) on your right. At the end of the carpark pathway, turn right and the Geary Institute is the semi-circular building facing you.

  • If travelling on the 46A or 145 bus to the N11 entrance of the UCD campus, walk through the main gate of the campus and follow the path straight in front of you until you pass Allied Irish Bank. Keeping the bank directly behind you, walk straight along the path in front of you and turn left. Go up one set of steps in front of you and take a right on to the path that runs between the Newman Building and the Restaurant. Follow this path, cross the road at the traffic lights and go up the steps in front of you. The Geary Institute is the building directly in front of you. The entrance is on the left of the building.

  • If you access UCD via the Clonskeagh entrance, continue on foot and pass the first roundabout. You will pass the UCD sports and student centres on your left and playing fields on your right. Continue straight and follow the road with the roundabout. Pass this roundabout, keeping the church on your left and further along the road you will see Belgrove student accommodation on the right. Continue straight, pass the pedestrian crossing and continue on until you reach the pedestrian lights. You will see steps to the right of large student residences. Take these steps and Geary Institute is the building directly in front of you. The entrance is on the left of the building.
