The UKCGE, or the UK Council for Graduate Education, is the leading independent representative of postgraduate education in the UK. The current strategic priorities of the organisation are:

  • promoting the value of postgraduate education
  • providing world-class student experience
  • enhancing research cultures.

EUA-CDE

The EUA-CDE, or the European Universities Association Council for Doctoral Education, was launched in 2008 in response to a growing interest in doctoral education and research training in Europe. They are now the largest European network in this field, covering more than 30 countries and bringing together a community of academic leaders and professionals from over 230 universities. The UCD Dean of Graduate Studies is a member of the EUA-CDE Executive Committee and UCD has been a member of the EUA and the EUA-CDE for over a decade.

Universitas 21

Universitas 21 (U21) is a leading global network of research-intensive universities that empowers its members to share excellence, collaborate across borders and nurture global knowledge exchange. Committed to promoting the value of internationalisation and multinational collaboration, U21 facilitates the delivery of programmes, activities and initiatives that could not be delivered through a single university or via bi-lateral agreements. 

UCD is the only Irish university represented in the U21 Network of research-intensive universities and is involved in a number of collaborative initiatives with U21 partners.

ORPHEUS

ORPHEUS (the Organisation for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in the European System) aims to safeguard the PhD as a research degree by supporting graduate schools, faculties and departments, research students and their supervisors, through quality assurance mechanisms, advocation of best practices, professional development and training. Dr Janet Carton, UCD's Head of Graduate Studies and Research Strategy, is the current Vice President for ORPHEUS.
