Joaquim Ferreira completed his medical degree and PhD in neurology at the University of Lisbon, Portugal. He is Professor of Neurology and Clinical Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lisbon and Head of the Laboratory of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Portugal. He is also Group Leader at Instituto de Medicina Molecular (Lisbon) and head of the Neurorehabilitation Institute CNS-Campus Neurológico in Torres Vedras, Portugal.

Professor Ferreira became interested in movement disorders during his medical degree and later undertook a clinical pharmacology fellowship with Professor Olivier Rascol in Toulouse, France. He has been Principal Investigator of multiple clinical trials in the field of Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease and dystonia.

His major research interests are neuropharmacology, Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders.
