Vincent Hargaden

Associate Professor Vincent Hargaden

Associate Professor Vincent HargadenAssociate Professor Vincent Hargaden is the Head of the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering in University College Dublin.

His research areas include the following fields: Design and Optimisation of Supply Chains, Simulation, Supply Chain Risk and Resilience, Workforce Analytics in Professional/Engineering Services Firms, High-Tech Workforce Education and Training Methods in Manufacturing Operations and Engineering Management Education.

He is a co-PI on a Horizon 2020 funded project (VALUMICS), investigator in an Enterprise Ireland Technology Centre (DPTC) and one of two Irish management committee representatives on COST Action 15105 (European Medicines Shortages Research Network).

He was based with the Supply Chain Management group at the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School from 2004-2011. From 1997 to 2004 he held production engineering, design, project and supply chain management roles in a number of multi-national manufacturing firms.

He is a member of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS), the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS), the European Operations Management Association (EurOMA) and the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM). He has more than 40 publications in international scientific journals, refereed conferences and conference contributions. He received a PhD in Industrial & Systems Engineering (2011) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an MBA (2003) from UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, an MEngSc in Industrial Engineering Design & Analysis (1997) from National University of Ireland Galway and a BE in Mechanical Engineering from University College Dublin (1995). He also holds a Professional Diploma in University Teaching and Learning (2014) from University College Dublin.
