UCD No 1 in Ireland in URAP World Rankings

QS World University Rankings has placed UCD first in Ireland in seven subject categories and ranked UCD in the top 200 in 22 of the 30 subjects measured.

The categories ranked number 1 in Ireland cover: Accounting & Finance, Agriculture & Forestry, Statistics & Operational Research, Chemical Engineering, Civil & Structuring Engineering, Mathematics, Earth & Marine Sciences.

Showing strength in humanities, UCD seven subjects ranked within the top 100 include: English Language & Literature, History, Modern Languages, Law, Politics & International Studies, Agriculture & Forestry, and Accounting & Finance.
The QS rankings are based on a number of criteria covering academic and employer surveys, citations per paper and h-index, which measures weighted research output by scholar across each subject.

Commenting on the rankings, the President of UCD, Professor Andrew Deeks said: “Subject rankings show that UCD has strengths across all Colleges and I would like to acknowledge and thank the UCD academic community for their efforts.  Our aim is to improve our reputation through heightened research impact and awareness, especially among the international academic community.”

To draw up the subject rankings, QS evaluated over 3,000 universities and ranked 689 institutions in total.  130 million citations attributions were analysed and 10,639 programmes verified.

In a separate ranking – the URAP World University Rankings – University College Dublin is ranked as the number 1 university in Ireland.  The University Ranking by Academic Performance focuses on academic quality. Since 2009 URAP has gathered annual data about 2,500 higher education institutes with the highest number of publications to rank them by their academic performance.  Based completely on data from bibliometric sources, the URAP measures six academic performance indicators: number of articles, citation, total document, journal impact total, journal citation total, international collaboration.
