NavCare-EU
The EU NAVIGATE study is a non-medical navigation programme based in Europe. Navigation programmes support older adults with cancer throughout their trajectory to live as well as possible at home. Specially-trained navigators help older adults and their families access needed resources and services, while providing companionship and support.

What is the study about?
Many people with cancer are older adults, and they often face challenges getting the
right care and support. The EU NAVIGATE Study is a non-medical support program
that tests a new support program called NavCare-EU to help older cancer patients
and their family caregivers get better care. In this program, trained “navigators” work
with older cancer patients and their families to:
- Understand and manage their care
- Get the right support at the right time
- Improve quality of life
- Feel less lonely
- Feel more supported and empowered.
This study is important because it could improve care for older people with cancer and their families by
making support more:
- Personalized
- Helpful and supportive
- Easier to access and fairer for everyone

Who takes part in this study? Can I join?
You may be able to join if:
- You are 70 years or older.
- You have cancer and your health is getting worse.
- Living at home in Dublin or Bray.
- You are not currently receiving Community Palliative Care.
Family caregivers can also take part in the study if they have one.
People in the study will be randomly placed into one of two groups:
- Group 1: Get the “Navigator” straight away for 1 year and standard care.
- Group 2: Get the “Navigator” after 6 months (delayed start), for 1 year and
standard care.
The researchers will compare these two groups to see how helpful the NavCare-EU
program is.
