Dr. Anne Fortune, Consultant Haematologist at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (MMUH), is a prominent figure in Ireland’s clinical research landscape, known for her dedication to advancing care in blood cancers and related disorders.
A graduate of the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG), Dr. Fortune completed her specialist haematology training in Ireland before joining MMUH in 2011. Since then, she has played a key role in both national and international clinical research efforts, serving as principal investigator on numerous trials focused on lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS).
Currently the Clinical Lead of MMUH’s Clinical Trials Research Unit, Dr. Fortune is at the forefront of bringing innovative treatment options to Irish patients. Her leadership ensures that new therapies are rigorously tested and delivered through high-quality, patient-centred research.
With over 15 years of involvement in Cancer Trials Ireland, Dr. Fortune has shaped the future of haematology research across the country. Since 2021, she has chaired the organisation’s Disease-Specific Subgroup (DSSG) for Haematology and Lymphoma, guiding collaborative efforts between clinicians and researchers.
Her professional affiliations span several respected bodies, including the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), Lymphoma Forum Ireland (LFI), the Haematology Association of Ireland (HAI), and Blood Cancer Network Ireland (BCNI). Her research interests encompass both lymphoid and myeloid diseases, with a strong emphasis on integrating clinical research with compassionate care.
