Devon Kerins Coffee Morning pic

Join us every Thursday morning, either in-person from 10.45am or online from 11am, to hear about new environmental, climate and sustainability research and initiatives from UCD and beyond.

Research talk

Looking deeper: the underground story of climate change and water quality will be presented by Dr Devon Kerins from UCD School of Civil Engineering.

Overview

By 2040, nearly 40% of the global population may face serious water scarcity. Even though water quality degradation is unquestionably linked to declining water availability, it is often overlooked in climate risk assessments. One reason is that key processes driving water quality occur below ground, where data is sparse. This presentation introduces catchment-scale reactive transport modelling as a powerful tool to simulate the underground processes driving water quality and assess how climate variability and landscape features impact water quality.
