David Meredith – Adjunct Senior Research Fellow

David Meredith is a Senior Research Officer at Teagasc with responsibility for rural development and rural health research within the Teagasc Rural Economy Development Programme. After studying at University College Dublin (BA Geography, MLitt Geography) and Maynooth University (PhD) he took up a post in Teagasc in 2001 where he has developed extensive national and international expertise in the design and implementation of research that centres on understanding the interrelated local, regional, national and international social and economic processes that underpin contemporary rural development. 

David is currently the principal investigator on the RENEW2050 and BeSAFE projects (both funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Stimulus Fund) and the Irish partner in the EU funded ESCAPE project. He was formally the PI on the ProDSE project, funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine Stimulus Fund). Since 2013, David has successfully written or been a principal investigator on 10 grants, totaling c.€2m and led a large, EU consortium bidding for Horizon 2020 research funding (2018). He has published in a variety of international, peer reviewed journals, book chapters and edited a number of books including Spatial Justice and the Irish Crisis. 

David’s expertise and contributions were reflected in his appointment as the Head of Research for the Commission for the Economic Development of Rural Areas (CEDRA 2012 - 2013). He has been appointed to a number of national and international expert groups and advisory committees supporting rural and regional policy development and implementation.
