Innovation Dublin Festival 2010

For 2010 the Innovation Dublin Festival, established in 2009 to raise public awareness of innovation and creativity, been expanded to 12 days (10th-21st November) to truly celebrate the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit of Dublin. Hundreds of events including seminars, workshops, discussions, exhibitions, performances, showcases and competitions on all kinds of topics are being organised with the aim of pursuing new ideas and fresh initiatives for Dublin.

The idea of the festival grew out of discussions at the Creative Dublin Alliance, a network led by the Dublin City Manager with members drawn from Dublin’s local councils, 3rd level institutions, including UCD, State agencies, businesses and not-for-profit organisations. Last year 40,000 visitors attended over 465 events, creating hundreds of new interactions and connections across Dublin. In response to this initial success, it was decided to make the festival an annual event.

Innovation is an important element of UCD’s future. As set out in UCD’s Strategic Plan, Forming Global Minds, UCD will develop innovation, which relates both to economic development and to culture and society, as the third pillar of its core mission of service to Ireland in the wider world. The pivotal development in the innovation sphere during the period of the plan is UCD’s Innovation Alliance with Trinity College Dublin, which has an objective of developing Ireland as a global innovation hub.

As part of the 2010 Festival UCD will be hosting a series of events in various locations around the university and around Dublin. These events will take place in areas such as education, research and development, science, business, enterprise, culture, design, music etc and will include seminars, workshops, conferences, exhibitions, performances, showcases and competitions.

During the Festival Dublin will host a flagship conference, Globe Forum 2010 (17-18 November) where innovators, investors, researchers and business and state leaders seek to address major challenges through creative methods of funding innovation, and seek to deal with sustainability issues through innovation. The focus of Globe Forum Dublin 2010 is Smarter and Greener - Innovation for a Sustainable Future. The TCD-UCD Innovation Alliance is sponsoring this key event.
