All-Ireland Senior Football Championship: UCD and Dublin's winning squad

UCD student, Rory O'Carroll (3rd Arts) played alongside UCD graduates, Michael Fitzsimons (Physiotherapy), Cian O'Sullivan (MAcc), Michael Dara McAuley (Arts), Alan Brogan (HDip Computer Science), and Barry Cahill (HDip Computer Science), on the Dublin squad that won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.

The edge-of-the-seat final at Croke Park ended Dublin 1-12 Kerry 1-11, after Dublin goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton converted a winning free in stoppage time.

The last time Dublin won the Sam Maguire was in 1995.

"As a Dub and a UCD man I am thrilled that the Sam Maguire is back in the capital," said David Billings, UCD's Gaelic Games Executive. "It is particularly pleasing that so many past and present UCD men were involved in the historic win."

Dr David Hickey the team selector, and a respected Kidney specialist, is also a graduate of University College Dublin.

Dublin manager Pat Gilroy paid tribute to his players and said the All-Ireland Final win over Kerry brought "a great sense of achievement".

UCD students, Colm Murphy (MSc. Sports Management) and Craig Dias (2nd Commerce), and UCD graduates, Michael Savage (Masters in Economics), and Paul Griffin (Physiotherapy) were also on the Dublin starting squad.
