Commenting on the promotions, UCD President Dr Hugh Brady said that the large number announced under the first round of the new promotion process reflected the high standards and achievements of the UCD academic community.
“This promotion round is very significant for UCD with 107 promotions
being approved by the Governing Authority. For the first time there has
been a procedure to promote to Professor and 24 promotions have been
made. This is also the first time that promotions to Associate Professor
have not taken place under a quota system. In all, 48 promotions were
approved. I am also pleased to note that the Senior Lecturer promotions
benchmarking system is working well and gives candidates clear targets
to strive for. Thirty-five promotions to Senior Lecturer were made. I
am delighted that a key tenet of the UCD Strategic Plan 2005 to 2008,
development of a full suite of recruitment and reward mechanisms for
academic staff, is now in place as demonstrated by this round of academic
promotions.”
