3 May 2007 - Solar Observations from Space and the Sun-Earth Connection
Venue: Room 128, Science Centre North
Time: 3.00pm
Following a brief introduction to the Sun, Prof Len Culhane, Mullard Space Science Laboratory, University College London, will outline the Japanese/UK/US Hinode mission and some of its early results.
Based on previous work, Prof Len Culhane will present a case study to illustrate the importance of observations of the Sun and the near-earth environment for understanding solar eruptions and their effects at Earth. Prof Culhane will also describe the US/UK STEREO mission launched in the late 2006, and some of its first observations. Hinode and STEREO are now poised to make the next major steps in Solar Physics and in our understanding of the Sun-Earth connection.
