Jim Wallis was the Boatman of UCD Boat Club for 27 years and retired from UCD in August 2004. Jim’s roles included the upkeep of all UCD rowing boats and coach and mentor to both men’s and ladies boat clubs. Jim has been a stalwart in the rowing world both in Ireland and the UK. He was based at London Rowing Club before he took up his post at UCD. He was also administrator to national teams in the UK and in Ireland. Jim lived at Islandbridge beside the UCD Boat House. He had recently moved to Moate with his wife Patricia. When Jim retired in August 2004, he was to be the last Boatman in UCD. Not only was Jim a stalwart but also he had a distinct character, which was larger than life. Only recently Jim attended the UCD Boat Club boat naming ceremony to see one of the boats named after him.

His friends and colleagues in UCD Sport and members of UCD Boat Club will sadly miss him.
