Irish employers Top Europe in investment in business education

The figures in today’s Financial Times Executive MBA (EMBA) ranking show that compared to their European counterparts, Irish employers recognise the value and return on investment that an Executive MBA at UCD Smurfit School brings to an organisation. The survey shows that Irish employers are also willing to “put their money where their mouth is” by topping the European ranking for sponsoring their own staff to undertake Executive MBA programmes. Smurfit School EMBA graduates also showed average earnings of $107,500 just three years after graduation, a 53% increase from the beginning of their EMBA.

The survey ranks UCD Smurfit School in 19th place in Europe and 63rd place in the world, and once again lists the school as the only Irish business school amongst the top 75 business schools in the world.

Commenting on the results, the Director of UCD Smurfit School Dr Damien McLoughlin said, “It is very rewarding to see that Irish companies recognise the immediate and long term benefits that executive education brings to an organisation. The substantial increase in salaries post graduation is a reflection of the value that graduates of our Executive MBA bring to their employers.

“The immediate benefits to employers are many; each year more than 200 UCD Smurfit School EMBA students, all experienced professionals, bring their companies to the classroom where their employers’ opportunities and problems are immediately exposed to the best and latest ideas in each of the major areas of business. In class they practice the use of these technologies and return to their employers with an undoubted potency for business improvement and growth.

“From a national perspective our EMBA graduates offer the economy an elite pool of management professionals, each of whom is capable of contributing substantially to the future needs of the Irish economy. As Irelands leading business school our mission must be to continue to match the needs of business with executive programmes”

Congratulating UCD Smurfit School of Business on its ranking, Minister for Education and Science Mary Hanafin T.D., said it is very encouraging to see an Irish programme rank amongst the best in Europe. “It is also great credit to Irish employers who recognise the value of cutting edge executive education for the business leaders of tomorrow.” she said.
