Become a Work Placement Partner with UCD’s BSc Sport and Exercise Management Programme
As part of their degree, students in the BSc Sport and Exercise Management degree programme complete a minimum of 200 hours of work placement in the second year of their three-year course. This offers your organisation the chance to benefit from our students' skills, enthusiasm, and fresh perspectives, while giving students the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience.
Various organisations, across Dublin and further afield, with a broad remit around sport, health, and exercise are suitable to host students for these placements.
How can this benefit your organisation?
- Experienced and knowledgeable students: second-year students in the programme have a strong foundation in such subjects and practices as human resource management, event planning and operations, marketing, legislation, and athlete development.
- Fresh perspectives and new ideas: students offer enthusiasm, energy, and creative solutions.
- Future talent pipeline: assess potential future employees in real-world contexts and build a skilled workforce.
What’s involved for Work Placement Partners?
- Assign meaningful tasks relevant to the sport and exercise management programme.
- Provide mentorship and guidance.

Work Placement Testimonials
"The Irish Hockey Association has linked with UCD's Placement Programme for the last three years and has been extremely happy with the calibre, professionalism and hard work of the students that have been placed with us. The placement programme has complemented the work of the IHA, ultimately allowing us to deliver projects that we otherwise would not have the resources to do. We would envisage a relationship with UCD's Placement Programme long into the future".
Fiona Mills, Strategic Development Director, Irish Hockey Association
"The International Rugby Board has afforded UCD the opportunity of placing some of the students from the UCD Sport & Exercise Management Programme on periods of work placement with the International Rugby Board. The work placement programme has given students the opportunity to gain experience in the field of sports management with a view to improving students potential for future employment opportunities in the sports sector, while also affording the IRB an opportunity to work with enthusiastic, motivated and skilled individuals".
Myra McGlynn, Human Resources Manager, International Rugby Board
