Are we nearly there? The rocky road to reforming research assessment

23 May 2023, 15.00-16.30

Dr Elizabeth Gadd
Research Policy Manager at Loughborough University; Chair of the INORMS Research Evaluation Group; Vice Chair of CoARA

Overview

The Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) is ten years old this year, and initiatives that call for better research evaluation now abound. The Coalition on Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) offers a significant opportunity to develop and embed better assessment practices through collective action from research funding, performing, and evaluation groups.

But to what extent has research assessment practice actually changed on the ground? Has the every-day experience of the researcher improved? How long might a thorough revision of research assessment practices actually take? And what might be the challenges along the way?

This session will discuss the rocky road to research evaluation reform and attempt to answer the question, "Are we nearly there?"
