Alumni Fund Grant Awards 2009

UCD New ERA is the Equal Right to Access Programme at UCD. In 2009, the Alumni Fund awarded €54,000 to fund five arts scholarships and three science scholarships. These scholarships enable students to overcome social and financial barriers to attending university.

The UCD Sports Scholarships scheme gives talented young people the opportunity of developing their sporting career by offering the highest standards in coaching, training, nutrition, strength and conditioning advice, while also completing their chosen course of study. The Alumni Fund awarded €10,000 to fund five golf scholarships and €14,000 to fund seven rugby scholarships.

The Get in Gear Boot Camp Programme will be rolled out in addition to the UCD Get in Gear Get Active Programme. The purpose of this new programme is to encourage more male students to get involved in exercise in a fun and challenging environment.   The Boot Camp approach will give students of all fitness levels an opportunity to get fit using intense, challenging and fun military style techniques.  The Alumni Fund awarded €4,500 to help launch this programme.

The UCD Emergency First Aid Society was set up to provide a greatly expanded first response cover for the entire campus and population. This service intends to provide a more rapid response to medical emergencies, with responders that have a greater level of training, approachability, experience, and more advanced resuscitation equipment than is currently available. The Alumni Fund awarded €6,000 to EFAS to ensure that all students benefit as a result of the enhanced safeguards put in place to ensure their health and wellbeing.
