UCD Centre for Japanese Studies’ 1st All-Centre (hybrid) Meeting

June 2023

First All-Centre (hybrid) Meeting
Centre Director, Assoc. Prof. Naonori Kodate hosted JaSt’s 1st All-Centre (hybrid) meeting at the UCD School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice on the 19th of June. The meeting was held as its AGM as well as the occasion to celebrate its first 3 years and the successful outcome of the UCD Academic Council Committee on Academic Centres (ACCAC)’s review.

The members of the UCD Centre for Japanese Studies, the UCD Japan Group, the UCD Japanese Society, the UCD Taiko team, visiting academics/researchers and internal and external academic advisors joined the meeting from Cork, Delhi, Dublin, Kagoshima, Miyazaki, Tokyo and Yokohama, and took part in lively discussions as to future collaborations and plans. Coming out of the pandemic, it was a rare occasion for students and staff from across the campus (and across the sea) to come together. After the meeting, we enjoyed the company over sushi and sandwiches after the meeting.

Special thanks to two external advisors (Prof. Kiri Paramore (University College Cork) and Prof. Yoshiro Azuma (Indian Institute of Technology Delhi)), in particular, for your great opening speech, inputs and feedback. We would like to thank other advisors (Profs. Davis, Moore, Ng, Ellis, Brennan, Carthy, McAuliffe and Hardiman) for your very encouraging words and comments as well.
