About

The network for LGBTQI+ staff was established with the assistance of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Unit in UCD HR following expressions of interest by staff. An invitation was circulated to all staff in early December 2009 by the Equality and Diversity Unit inviting those interested in establishing a network to a meeting on 14th January 2010. The objectives of the meeting were to:

  • Provide information to staff on UCD support services and to show a commitment to LGBT equality;
  • Enable staff to discuss the role and function of an LGBT network;
  • Explore how the university can best respond to the support needs of LGBT staff.

An independent facilitator was engaged to assist in achieving the objectives of the meeting. Following the provision of information on supports available, experiences of establishing a network and the exploration of experiences of being an LGBT member of staff in UCD, participants agreed the following:

  1. The development of an LGBT staff network
  2. Members of the group will fully support the establishment of such a network, participate in future meetings and encourage colleagues to participate
  3. A further meeting would take place to discuss the development of the network

The structure and terms of reference proposed by the network at a further meeting in February 2010 were approved by UCD HR. The network held their first meeting on 12th May 2010 and proceeded to elect chairs (there is a joint chair arrangement) and the terms of reference were agreed.

The Network was officially launched in UCD in February 2017 by Colin Scott, the UCD Vice-President for EDI.
