Terms of Reference

The LGBTQI+ Staff Network at UCD is an informal community within the university which provides a space for staff from gender and sexual minority groups to connect, collaborate, and support each other and the wider LGBTQI+ community, both within and outside of UCD.

Terms of Reference

  • To facilitate regular meetings of LGBTQI+ staff in order to socialise, support, and provide a space for discussion and connection.
  • To organise events with the purpose of networking, educating, and socialising, both internal to the network and with the wider UCD community and wider public.
  • To promote events and projects of interest across the network of LGBTQI+ staff.
  • To raise issues impacting the LGBTQI+ community within UCD with the wider UCD community and university structures.
  • To collaborate and cooperate with similar networks across higher education institutions.

Principles of Working

  • The network has a non-hierarchical structure and is open to all members of UCD staff who identify as LGBTQI+.
  • Membership of the network is limited to members of the LGBTQI+ community; however, some events may be open to allies who do not identify as LGBTQI+.
  • The network is not part of the formal UCD structures and has no reporting responsibilities.
  • Network members are expected to engage in good faith with events and meetings and should respect the confidentiality of others within the network.
  • Network members will not out other members.
  • All meetings and events are underpinned by principles of equity, inclusion and human rights.
  • No forms of racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, biphobia, ableism, or any other intolerance will be tolerated within network meetings or events.

Network Support

  • The network will be facilitated by two co-chairs who are selected from the wider membership.
  • Co-chairs will usually remain in position for three years.
  • The co-chairs will come from diverse gender backgrounds.
  • The network will be organised through a mailing list, managed by the co-chairs.
  • The co-chairs will normally represent the network on various UCD bodies.
  • Co-chairs may make responses on behalf of the network, usually following discussion with network members.
  • Other office holders or sub/working groups may be appointed by the network for defined areas of work.
  • The network will be financially supported through UCD EDI Unit; no funds will be held by the network.
