UCD Library is seeking to recruit Student Guides to support orientation activities in the Library across the academic year.

Hours per week: 7.5 (paid)

  • Providing basic support to students who are new to the Library and its services such as how to enter and exit the Library with a student card; how to find books; how to borrow and return books using the self-service kiosks and smart returns; how to use the Library App to locate and borrow books; how to borrow laptop loans from the self-service lockers.
  • Providing directional information and guidance to facilities such as the Welcome Desk, the Sensory Study Room and Transition Room, quiet study areas, photocopiers and book borrowing and returns.
  • Providing guidance on how to find key information and services on the Library website including opening hours; floor plans; how to book zoom rooms, study spaces and groups study rooms.
  • Providing advice on study etiquette in the Library and encouraging students not to ‘space hog’ during peak study periods or leave their belongings unattended in the Library.
  • Referring queries to the Welcome Desk and providing onward advisory information for library services such as library contact details.
  • Assist with the organisation and running of orientation events and activities in the Library. 
  • Providing feedback to Library staff on the types of questions encountered, challenges students face most often when using the library, and on what system is most effective. (e.g. roving or a set desk).

UCD Library are seeking candidates from a range of programmes and subject areas. Candidates must have:

  • Have completed Stage 1 of their undergraduate programme in UCD.
  • Have experience using the James Joyce Library.
  • Have a good understanding of the James Joyce Library building and the location of Library Services.
  • An enthusiasm for working in a busy, customer focused role.
  • Have Irish work permit if required.
