Professor Niamh Brennan recognised as ‘influential leader’ inspiring positive change in business

Posted 10 April, 2024

The world’s largest business education alliance has named (opens in a new window)Professor Niamh Brennan as one of its influential leaders inspiring positive change in the business world.

(opens in a new window)AACSB International (AACSB) - which accredits over a thousand business schools worldwide – recognised the UCD academic as a part of its 2024 Class of Influential Leaders.

This honorific celebrates those who exemplify the important role of faculty in developing knowledge that provides timely and relevant solutions for business and societal challenges.

Professor Brennan, who is currently the Michael MacCormac Professor of Management at UCD College of Business and the founder and academic director of the (opens in a new window)UCD Center for Corporate Governance, was one of 22 business school faculty globally to be recognised by the annual initiative.

“Professor Brennan’s work demonstrates the potential of business school research to address some of today’s most critical challenges,” said Lily Bi, AACSB president and CEO.

“The knowledge Professor Brennan is producing will help inform and create real change in the world.”

With over 100 publications to her name, Professor Brennan was recognised by Stanford University as one of the world's top 2% of scientists for 2022.

She was elected to the Royal Irish Academy, Ireland's highest academic honour, and has received a British Accounting and Finance Association Distinguished Academic Award and a fellowship of the Irish Academy of Management.

In addition, she was appointed an inaugural fellow of the Institute of Directors in Ireland and an honorary fellow of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland.

Her research interests are in financial reporting and corporate governance, and Professor Brennan was the first in Ireland to offer education and training to company directors.

Following the controversy surrounding hidden payments at RTÉ, Ireland's national broadcaster, in 2023, the Minister for the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media appointed Professor Brennan to chair an expert advisory committee examining governance and cultural failures at the public service broadcaster.

AACSB’s Influential Leaders program recognises notable alumni and faculty from its accredited business schools whose work inspires positive change in the business world and society at large.

It aims to highlight the value that business schools bring to business and society - whether through alumni who have used their business education to improve the industries and communities they serve, or the faculty leading positive impact through their research.
