Mentoring

Mentoring is an integral part of our community outreach programme.  Our Access Leaders act as mentors in all summer schools and student expense days

In addition we have dedicated mentoring programmes:

Future You Mentoring

UCD Future You Mentoring is a programme designed for prospective students who aspire to pursue higher education.
It connects these students with UCD mentors who have benefited from the UCD Access & Lifelong Learning Centre during their studies. Having faced similar challenges themselves, the mentors provide valuable guidance and support in navigating the path to college.

The programme is offered to UCD-linked DEIS schools. Throughout TY, 5th and 6th year, secondary school students meet their mentors on several occasions. Mentors visit the schools to share their experiences of both secondary school and higher education, offer study tips, and provide advice on preparing for the CAO application and the Leaving Certificate.

Future You mentees are also invited to the UCD campus, where they can explore the university, take part in workshops, and attend real lectures in subjects that interest them.

In addition, UCD offers a dedicated scholarship to students who progress to the university after completing the programme.

Community Mentoring

The (opens in a new window)(opens in a new window)Community Mentoring (CM) programme is a unique inter-institutional and community-based mentoring programme originally comprised of Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology (IADT), Marino Institute of Education (MIE), National College of Art and Design (NCAD), Royal College of Surgeons (RCSI), Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and University College Dublin (UCD). The programme also welcomes mentors from a variety of backgrounds in different colleges and careers.

(opens in a new window)(opens in a new window)Community Mentors are a valuable community resource, who can help to share information and advice about their college experience, to help prospective students build their awareness of college courses, how to apply, and the benefits of a college education. Community Mentors are drawn from the following under-represented groups at third-level.

Community Mentors are volunteers. The programme however provides employability skills such as public speaking, leadership and references. There can also be networking opportunities.
