If you have been diagnosed with a disability you can register with the Disability Support Service by providing medical documentation of your disability. You can either submit the UCD Evidence of Disability Form or a medical report. We recommend you email(opens in a new window) disability@ucd.ie to arrange a meeting to access support based on your needs.
Step 1: Gather Your Documentation Confirming your Diagnosis
To arrange supports, we must have paperwork confirming your disability/diagnosis. You will need to provide either appropriate existing documentation or a completed UCD Evidence of Disability Form. The form explains exactly what documentation is required for each disability type. If you have multiple disabilities, please gather appropriate documentation for each disability.
Step 2: Complete a Needs Assessment Request Form and Upload Your Documents
We will send you a separate email with the link to this Needs Assessment Request Form to your UCD Connect email. Complete the ‘Needs Assessment Request Form’ on SISWeb and upload supporting documents.
Step 3: Attend a Needs Assessment Appointment
When your documents have been submitted, we will contact you with a date and time to meet with a member of the team in Access and Lifelong Learning.
Required documents are listed on our UCD Evidence of Disability Form. If you have multiple disabilities, you must provide documentation for each disability. If you are a first-year incoming DARE student, you don’t need to provide any documentation as we should have received your documentation from the CAO.
Any registered UCD student with a disability or ongoing illness is eligible for support.
A Needs Assessment is a simple and short conversation with one of our Disability Support Specialists to understand your needs and determine the best support for you.
During this 30-minute session, we will identify the most suitable accommodations to support you during your studies at UCD. This may include academic support, exam support, assistive technology support and on campus accommodation support.
All students who wish to register with UCD Access & Lifelong Learning for disability support will need to agree to both the Consent to Disclose Disability Information and Disability support privacy statement. Once you are registered with the Disability Support Service, only relevant UCD staff will have access to your information on academic and exam support on InfoHub Classlists. Academic staff will only have access to your support but not to your medical documentations.
No, once you have completed the Needs Assessment with one of our Disability Support Specialists, your support will remain in place for the duration of your academic studies in UCD.
Please note that your support does not automatically resume after a study break. If you have taken a break from your studies, we recommend a support review to ensure you have the most up-to-date support for your current needs.
You can review or modify your reasonable accommodations at any time after completing the Needs Assessment. However, there is a deadline each trimester for arranging support for end-of-trimester exams. If you miss this deadline, you can review your support in the following trimester.
If your course involves a placement, we will discuss your support needs during your Needs Assessment. We will also inform the placement coordinator to help ensure you receive the necessary accommodations.
