What is Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy (OT) is a client-centred profession that is regulated by (opens in a new window)CORU (Health & Social Care Professionals Council). OTs promote health and wellbeing through occupation, which are the activities people need to and want to do. OTs collaborate with people to develop their skills, adapt activities, or modify environments to support participation in their daily tasks.
Occupational Therapy Supports
The aim of the OT service in UCD is to enable you to develop academic, personal, social skills and strategies to support you in your role as a student. In your initial one-to-one meeting, we will carry out an assessment which allows us to identify specific areas you want to work on, and your priorities related to college life. Here are some examples of the areas you may focus on during your OT sessions:
- Transitioning and adapting to university life
- Time Management and Study Techniques
- Managing your sensory needs within the college environment
How can I access the service?
You can use the OT Service if you are a student registered with the Disability Service. The OT Service is a referral-only service. You can be referred to an OT by a member of the DSS. We do not take referrals from external services. Once you have been referred, you will be placed on a waitlist. An OT will contact you to offer you an appointment at the first available opportunity.
