Network

Network

The national network is designed to assess ambient atmospheric ammonia concentrations in both rural and urban locations, away from large point sources. There are a total of 25 monitoring stations, comprising 22 rural sites and 3 urban sites.  The network operates with a coverage of 3000 Kmper station which is similar to national ammonia monitoring networks in the UK and Europe.

The monitoring stations are predominately located at existing Met Éireann climate stations and are operated by volunteers, without whose assistance and enthusiasm it would not be possible to carry out this project. We would also like to acknowledge the following organisations who are also assisting in this project:

  • Bord na Móna
  • Dublin City Council
  • Dundalk Institute of Technology
  • Inland Fisheries Ireland
  • Met Éireann
  • National Parks and Wildlife Service
  • National University of Ireland, Galway
  • Shannon Airport
  • Sligo Airport
