UCD Animal Welfare Science And Ethics

Animal welfare science and ethics are fundamental disciplines underpinning animal use for food production, biomedical research, sports, wildlife conservation, recreation and the human-animal bond. Research on animal welfare science provides data to inform policy and regulation worldwide. UCD has an established record on animal welfare science through teaching and research.

Research on animal welfare science has traditionally focused on investigating welfare parameters, to evaluate environment and management systems or procedures performed on animals.  Attitudes and behaviours towards animal welfare also presents an intriguing area of study. UCD is leading research in this field with a multidisciplinary collaboration between animal welfare science, veterinary epidemiology, veterinary public health and social science.
