He completed a BSc (Mathematics & Statistics)in University College Cork,an MSc (Mathematics)in University College Cork(Statistics) an MA (Statistics) in Yale University, and a PhD (Statistics) in Yale University.

His research is in the areas of Computational Statistics; Mixture Models; Cluster Analysis; Classification; Bayesian Methods; Latent Variable Models; High-dimensional Data; Rank Data and Network Models.
