Dr Joanne O’Brien Kelly

Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner

Joanne is an advanced nurse practitioner with the newly formed Integrated Community Based iPainCentre at Beaumont Hospital. She has worked in the field of pain management since 2000 registering as an ANP in 2015. Joanne is past president of the Irish Pain Society (2017 – 2019). In 2018 she was awarded an Employment Based Scholarship from the Irish Research Council and completed a PhD with the RCSI in 2022 for the design and development of an eHealth information resource for patients living with Fibromyalgia. In September 2024, Joanne was the first nurse to be elected to the Executive Board of the European Pain Federation, which represents 20,000 members from the multidisciplinary pain societies of 38 different countries. Joanne's research interests to date have concentrated on the treatment of neuropathic pain with Capsaicin 8%, post-operative pain management, self-management strategies in chronic pain and eHealth development to support self management of chronic pain.
