Retrofitting derelict properties key to cutting carbon emissions, says Oliver Kinnane

Retrofitting 100,000 of Ireland's vacant homes by the end of this decade could cut embodied carbon-related emissions by over one million tonnes, Oliver Kinnane - Earth Institute Climate Fellow and Head of School at UCD School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy - has told the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate, Environment and Energy.

A major new centre launched last Friday at UCD will harness artificial intelligence to transform weather forecasting, supporting Ireland’s preparation for the growing risks posed by climate change. The first of its kind in Ireland, the AIMSIR (AI for Meteorological Services, Innovation and Research) Centre was established with a €5 million investment from Met Éireann.
