Last week the 'Interdisciplinary Writing Solidarity Group’ (IWSG) received their award from the UCD ReCLAIM fund. This is a joint project between the Geary Institute for Public Policy (Dr Laura Foley) and the School of Psychology (Dr Glen Jankowski, Pat Mulvaney, and Isabelle Nic Craith).
In addition to helping researchers advance their writing and publication objectives, the initiative seeks to foster an inclusive research culture. By offering a schedule of workshops and a specific time and location for reading, writing, and discussing progress, the IWSG seeks to increase researcher productivity and output. A formal assessment of the retreats will also be carried out.
The core principle of the IWSG is that collaborating with others in a constructive, distraction-free setting offers a chance to make progress on grant submissions, conference papers/abstracts, journal articles, and PhD chapters. Retreats will strike a balance between providing enough discipline to help participants "get the writing done" and allowing them the freedom to connect with other researchers, form bonds with one another, and share best practices.
