The (opens in a new window)UCD Medical Society has raised a total of €43,927 for (opens in a new window)LauraLynn children’s hospice, through its Med Week fundraising activities.
UCD Med Week is an annual week-long fundraising drive hosted by MedSoc, consisting of events such as bake sales, sea swims, fun runs and pub quizzes to raise money for a chosen charity.
This year’s Med Week ran from 29 September to 3 October, and featured a scavenger hunt, a duck derby and a wax-a-thon.
MedSoc members also took part in a bucket collection across various locations in Dublin city centre.
“UCD MedSoc was incredibly proud to raise €43,927 for LauraLynn as part of our annual Med Week. Spearheaded by our two brilliant Charities Officers, Hollie and Cian, we hosted a wide range of dynamic and engaging events throughout the week,” said Eimear Freeley, auditor of UCD MedSoc.
“We take great pride and humility in this opportunity to give back, and in knowing that our society’s efforts have positively impacted the children and families supported by LauraLynn.”
LauraLynn is the only children’s hospice in the Republic of Ireland. Its mission is to deliver evidence-based, personalised services to children with palliative care needs, complex care needs and complex disabilities.
The hospice also provides support services to the families of its residents.
Since 2017, UCD Med Week has helped raise funds for a number of charities, including Féileacáin, Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust, BUMBLEance, Barretstown and Irish Dogs for the Disabled.
Established in 1909, MedSoc is one of the biggest societies at UCD and is Ireland's largest student medical society.
