Dr Virginie Gautier

Virginie is Assistant Professor at UCD School of Medicine and a Principal Investigator in UCD Centre for Experimental Pathogen Host Research (CEPHR). Established in 2019, CEPHR brings together researchers and research groups from across UCD who focus on infection-related research.

Finding a cure for 35 Million individuals living with HIV/AIDS is one of the great global health challenges of the 21st century. Virginie's research programme focuses on the HIV molecular pathogenesis, the Host-Virus interface and HIV Cure. Her expertise lies in Cellular Biology, Molecular Virology, Epigenetics, Functional Genomics, drugs-screening assay, and pre-clinical assays.

She is coordinator of the EU4HIVCURE consortium which brings interdisciplinary experts together from universities, hospitals and international research organisations across Europe, and one university from Canada, to accelerate the State of the Art in HIV CURE research.

She is actively involved in outreach activities targeting secondary schools and key stakeholders, and was invited to give a TEDxUCD Talk entitled ' HIV CURE: What lies beneath' to share her insights on our HIV CURE research. Virginie has been awarded national competitive research grants from the Irish Health Research Board, the Irish Research Council and Enterprise Ireland to develop her research programme.
