Health Screening Charge (HSC), Academic year 2023/24 Charge Reduction/Refund Policy

Health Screening Charge (HSC), Academic year 2023/24 Charge Reduction/Refund Policy

The Student Health Service has an agreement with the School of Medicine to screen and vaccinate students to ensure the safety and health of students and their future patients. The service follows National Guidelines and protocols agreed with the School of Medicine.

The Student Health Service has, in conjunction with the School of Medicine, set out the refund criteria for students who have already been vaccinated against Hepatitis B:

A fee of €310 is charged to all students entering the Medicine (DN400 & DN401), Radiography (DN410 & DN411), Physiotherapy (DN420 & X784) & MSc in Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics (X820) programmes.

  • A refund of €190.00 will be given to any student who on their initial health screen visit has shown to have completed a full course of Hepatitis B vaccination and where the post-vaccination antibody is above the therapeutic level, indicating protection against Hepatitis B virus.

A fee of €290 is charged to all students entering the BSc Biomedical, Health and Life Science and BSc Human Nutrition programmes.

  • A refund of €100.00 will be given to any student who has shown to have completed a full course of Hepatitis B vaccine but where the post-vaccination antibody is below the therapeutic level, indicating a booster dose of Hepatitis B vaccine is required. Following a booster, repeat antibody testing may or may not be indicated.

The Student Health Service staff will identify all students who qualify for a refund using the above criteria. Refunds are processed by the Fees & Registry department of UCD and are processed twice per year.

Once a student’s name is submitted to UCD’s Fees & Grants department, the Student Health Service has no further role in processing the reductions in the Health Screen Charge.
