I need a cervical screening appointment

A Cervical Screening Test (smear) is one of the best ways to protect yourself from cervical cancer. Cervical screening checks the health of your cervix. It is not a test for cancer, it's a test to help prevent cancer from developing.

Students who are interested in having a Cervical screening test can book an appointment with the doctor or nurse by phoning UCD Student Health Service on 01 716 3134. There is no charge for this service. Please specify the type of appointment you are booking in order to allow the appropriate amount of time for the test to take place.

Students are eligible for a cervical smear test at UCD Student Health Service if:

  1. They are over 25.
  2. They are (opens in a new window)registered with Cervical Check and are due a screening test

Make sure you are registered with Cervical Check. You will need a PPS number to do this. (If you do not have a PPS number, you can apply for one here: Apply for PPS number or if you have lost your number, follow this link: (opens in a new window)Find my PPS number

You may have received a letter from Cervical Check to inform you are due a screening test. Alternatively, you can check the Cervical Check website to see if you are due a screening test.

Please bring your Cervical Check registration number to your appointment.

The best time to have a cervical screening test is mid-cycle (day 10-15) if you are not on the OCP (the pill). If you are taking OCP (the pill), it is best to have the test during the first two weeks of any packet. Do not book a screening test when you are likely to be on your period.
