2019 UCD EdTECx Series

The UCD EdTECx talks 2019 focused on the implementation of the University’s new VLE - Brightspace. The keynote address was titled; “A vision for the future of Technology Enhanced Learning: key trends and implications”. Practice Talks focused on the new VLE with early adopters (educational technologists and faculty) sharing practice on various aspects of Brightspace. Following on from the Talks the 2019 EdTECx in action series of workshops focused on hands-on demonstrations which addressed Module & Assessment Design and Feedback in Brightspace from both pedagogical and technical perspectives.

2018 UCD EdTECx Series

The UCD EdTECx talks 2018 were themed Realities of Digital Learning. The Talks took place 15 March 2018 in UCD Health Sciences and were attended by over 100 UCD staff. The aim of this year’s EdTECx talks is to provide a platform for faculty and teaching staff across UCD to share practice and the experience of integrating educational technologies in teaching, learning and assessment. The keynote address was titled; “Achieving Student Success using Brightspace” and the focus of Talks was on topics such as the new VLE, Student Engagement, Blended and Online Learning and Universal Design for Learning. Due to the institutional undertaking of implementing a new VLE (Brightspace) in UCD the annual EdTECx in action workshops did not take place in 2018. 

2017 UCD EdTECx Series

The UCD EdTECx talks with the theme Navigating Digital Learning, took place on March 22 2017 in the Sutherland School of Law. The one-day event welcomed 110 UCD faculty and staff to various talks showcasing educational technologies in use for teaching, learning and assessment throughout campus. The keynote address was titled; “Digital Games for Learning”. The Talks which were delivered by faculty and educational technologists covered a wide range of topics including, reflections on educational technology, virtual classroom tools, feedback and online assessment, student response tools and content development technologies.

The 2017 UCD EdTECx in action workshops took place over four days from 28-31 August 2017 were attended by 223 UCD faculty and staff (110 unique participants). The 19 workshops on UCD Educational Technologies were facilitated by UCD IT Services and UCD Teaching & Learning in conjunction with the UCD network of Educational Technologists over four days from 28th August to 31st August 2017.


2016 UCD EdTECx Series

In 2016 the UCD EdTECx Talks were delivered as part of the UCD TEL Day which was aligned to the national Technology Enhanced Learning week hosted by (opens in a new window)The National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. As part of this initiative UCD hosted a TEL day which included talks on assessment. There were three short talks by UCD faculty and staff on granularity in assessment, summative assessment and peer and self assessment in the Virtual Learning environment (VLE). In addition, as part of this event, two case studies were presented from the (opens in a new window)UCD Digital Skills in Action project. To complete the UCD TEL All day the UCD All Aboard project in conjunction with UCD Student Digital Ambassadors facilitated a (opens in a new window)digital skills workshop for faculty and staff

The 2016 UCD EdTECx in action series offered 15 workshops on educational technologies which were attended by 224 (142 unique participants). The workshops were hosted by UCD IT Services & UCD Teaching & Learning over four days from 30 August - 2 September 2016.

2015 UCD EdTECx Series

The inaugural UCD EdTECx Talks took place over two days March 19 & 20, 2015 and it was attended by over 120 UCD faculty and staff. The keynote address was titled; “Do we know where we’re going to? Irish Higher Education in the digital age”. A number of short Pecha Kucha style talks were delivered by UCD Educational Technologists. Faculty and staff presented talks which focused on strategies and solutions for applying educational technologies to their teaching and assessment practice. Talks focused on key topics such as; electronic assessment management, online self and peer assessment, collaborative learning and digital content creation. 

The first EdTECx in action workshops on UCD educational technologies were delivered from 24-28 August 2015. The 24 individual workshops demonstrating the various educational technologies available within UCD were well attended with 230 UCD faculty and staff participating.
