Dr Amirhoussein Jalali named as Finalist in the HRB Ones2Watch 2019 Competition

Dr Amirhoussein Jalali, a postdoctoral research fellow working with Professor William Watson in UCD Conway Institute, was a finalist in the Health Research Board (HRB) Ones2Watch 2019 competition.

Amir is designing simple risk calculators to inform prostate cancer diagnosis, which aim to reduce the number of men requiring biopsy and their exposure to its side effects.

With a firm focus on the ability to communicate research concisely, all the entrants to the competition had to submit a short video clip of themselves describing their research.

The challenge set for these reserachers was to convince an adjudication panel that they are 'Ones 2 Watch' and why their research matters. Four finalists were then selected to present this in front of a live audience.

Dr Amirhoussein Jalali came second in the HRB Ones2Watch 2019 competition while Dr Aisling Smith from The Rotunda and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland won the competition.

Dr Jalali said, "I was delighted to be selected as a finalist in the HRB Ones2Watch 2019 competition. It was a fantastic opportunity to talk about my research to a broader audience. We are really hopeful that this may help to reduce the number of men requiring prostate biopsy and their exposure to its side effects."
