Strategic Initiatives

UCD Health Research Pathway

University College Dublin is building a €100 million health research pathway leading to a more personalised and integrated healthcare system.

The pathway harnesses systems medicine, data analytics, ubiquitous sensing, human sciences and innovative technology to develop personalised medicine and connected health.

Our academic hospital network of 11 hospitals, the Ireland East Hospital Group, serving a 1m+ patient population provides unique opportunities for translation and implementation.

UCD is seeking both young researchers and experienced thought leaders from relevant academic or industry backgrounds to help shape this health research pathway.

For expressions of interest, please send your CV and a letter outlining your interest in the UCD Health Research Pathway to cohs@ucd.ie

Personalised Medicine

Personalised (precision or stratified) medicine is an area of increasing societal and economic significance and UCD is playing a role in its development at both a European and national level. During the Irish Presidency of the Council of Europe in 2013, UCD played a leading role in positioning a 50-year roadmap for the future of health in the statements of the Council. This creates a policy basis for the inclusion of infrastructural and programmatic investment in personalised medicine that will be transformative of our healthcare systems.

At UCD, Systems Biology Ireland has built a strong international and national reputation for its work on signal transduction, and is a leader in the application of systems biology approaches to medicine that will enable improved diagnostics and personalised treatment. As a partner on the EU FP7 funded CASyM programme, SBI is leading the development of a ten year implementation strategy for systems and personalised medicine.
