Launch of Dundrum Community SDG Dashboard

Published: Monday, 29 November, 2021

Measuring Sustainable Actions at Community Level: Community SDG Dashboard was funded as an Earth Institute Strategic Priority project in 2019. The aim of the project is to create an academic-community partnership between the UCD Earth Institute researchers and the Dundrum 2030 community group to foster social engagement for systematically monitoring the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the local level. The project is led by Dr Ainhoa Gonzalez Del Campo (School of Geography), working with Dr Shane McGuinness and Prof Enda Murphy

One of the key outcomes from the project has been the creation of the SDG Community Dashboard, an interactive online tool developed jointly by the Dundrum 2030 community group and UCD Earth Institute researchers to help monitor local progress towards sustainability.  The interactive map allows querying ongoing sustainability initiatives in the community to find out more about them, foster links and voluntary engagement. The dashboard also presents national data on the status of 15 SDG indicators prioritised by the community, providing a baseline against which progress can be benchmarked. Work is ongoing to incorporate additional data and indicators. The dashboard was launched at an online event on 26 November 2021 at which the project presented information about the project and the work of Dundrum 2030, and local SDG Ambassadors spoke to champion a number of priority projects and data collection initiatives locally.

James Liston (Capital Credit Union, not pictured) is also an Ambassador.
