Digital EDI Badge - Training Initiative

A new EDI training initiative is now available for all UCD employees: those who complete a minimum number of EDI eLearning and attend relevant EDI training will be awarded a specially designed Digital EDI Ambassador Badge which can be displayed in email signatures and other media or documentation to demonstrate your commitment to Equality Diversity and Inclusion.

This pilot initiative is being introduced to provide recognition to colleagues who engage in EDI training and eLearning. We encourage all our colleagues and those in key roles in the University to participate in this initiative.

Continue reading below to find out more about the digital badge and how you can participate. Please refer to the FAQs at the bottom of this page and contact (opens in a new window)edi@ucd.ie for any further questions.

Digital EDI Ambassador Badge

Two levels of EDI Ambassador Badges can be obtained:

  • EDI Ambassador - Level 1: completion of 4 EDI courses over 1 Academic year
  • EDI Ambassador - Level 2: completion of 8 EDI courses over 2 Academic years

Conditions

  • Employees must complete the 3 EDI eLearning courses listed as essential for the purpose of the digital badge initiative (outlined below) as part of the 4 for level 1 and 8 courses for level 2
  • Employees must attend a minimum of 1 face-to-face live training course during the qualifying period
  • Employees must ensure that they have viewed and completed the full eLearning courses (all parts/modules and all quizzes) so that the system registers them as "complete"

EDI will not be able to deliver badges if essential training is missing from application forms or our systems.

EDI Training Courses

The EDI Training courses covered as part of this initiative including both eLearning and sessions delivered live face to face by our partners are listed in the drop-downs below. Some courses are highlighted as essential because they provide you with a strong foundation on key EDI principles and an important introduction to EDI in UCD. Other courses provide a deeper dive into specific EDI topics to support you in your role, whether as part of daily work or as members on committees and working groups, and to build on the foundations based for example on individual interests.

How to Obtain the digital Ambassador Badge

Once you've completed the required amount of eLearning courses and/or participated in the live training sessions, you can obtain your EDI Digital Ambassador Badge by completing the Google Form below with the list of training completed and a brief description on why you think EDI training is valuable and how you will apply the knowledge gained in your day-to-day role.

(opens in a new window)Apply for EDI Ambassador Badge (Google Form)

Since the qualifying period is 12 months for level 1 and 24 months for level 2, applications will not be monitored daily or weekly but will be checked three times per year at regular intervals. You can expect the first award of digital badges to be made in February 2024.

Please check the FAQs below and contact (opens in a new window)edi@ucd.ie in case of any questions.

FAQs

To qualify for the EDI Ambassador Badge level 1, you will need to complete a total of four EDI training courses in one Academic Year. These must include the three essential eLearning courses outlined above and at least one face-to-face training course.

To qualify for level 2 (after 12 months), you will need to complete a total of eight EDI training courses, so an additional four courses after achieving level 1.

If you're a manager with one or more direct reports, you should complete four courses to qualify for EDI Ambassador level 1 like other employees, but these four must include training tailored specifically for managers (see list below.)

  1. "Bullying, Harassment and Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Training (Dignity & Respect) - live face-to-face
  2. "Leading Disability-Inclusive Teams" (Reasonable Accommodation Training) - live face-to-face
  3. Inclusive Recruitment - Managing Bias - live face-to-face
  4. EDI in Higher Education - eLearning
  5. Supporting the Mental Health and Wellbeing of Employees - eLearning
  6. Menopause in the Workplace (Managers Module) - eLearning *coming soon*
  7. "Leading Inclusively in UCD" EDI RISE Webinar

If you've already completed one or more of the qualifying EDI training, whether eLearning or face to face, you may not need to do so again:

  • If you've completed or attended a course from the above list between September 2021 and August 2023, it will be counted for achieving the badge in Academic Year 2023/24.
  • If you've completed or attended a course before September 2021, it will not be counted for achieving the badge.

It is best practice to complete EDI training every two years and that is what we would recommend.

Once you've completed the relevant training and filled in the Google Form with your details and the list of courses, the EDI team will need to check that all the information is accurate. The Form will be monitored three times during the year.

  • If you applied via the Google Form on this page before 31 January 2024, you can expect to receive your EDI Ambassador badge in February 2024.
  • If you applied after 31 January 2024, the next batch of badges will be issued in May 2024.
  • If you applied after 31 April 2024, the final batch of badges for the Academic Year 2022/24 will be issued in September 2024.
