The Newman Fellowship Programme

For over 21 years, leading Irish and multinational corporations, semi-state bodies, voluntary organisations and individuals have sponsored high-calibre, post-doctoral research across the humanities and sciences through the UCD Newman Fellowship Programme. Each Newman Fellow is endowed for a two-year period to conduct a major research project leading to publication. The Fellowships build on the complementary strengths and needs of the University and the corporate sector.

Current Newman Fellows include:

  • Dr Danny Cheriyan, Ellie Brady Newman Fellow in Cancer Research
  • Dr Ben Collins, Agilent Technologies Newman Fellow in Quantitative Proteomics
  • Dr Sophie Gamwell, Irish Congress of Trade Unions Newman Fellow in Industrial Relations
  • Dr Andrew Hogan, Sanofi-aventis Newman Fellow in Obesity and the Immune System
  • Dr Siobhán Kelly, St Vincent’s University Hospital Newman Fellow in Multiple Sclerosis
  • Dr Petra Martin, Roche Products (Ireland) Newman Fellow in Oncology
  • Dr Brian McCullagh, Actelion Pharmaceuticals Newman Fellow in Translational Medicine and Pulmonary Hypertension

  • Dr Stephen O'Brien, Dawn Farm Foods Newman Fellow in Food Safety
  • Dr Taj Saber, Centocor B.V. Newman Fellow in Psoriatic Arthritis

The Newman Fellowship Programme’s success depends on the recruitment of highly talented, energetic Fellows and on continued generous financial support from the corporate and philanthropic sectors.
